GlycoMar joins ECMB

The European Centre for Marine Biotechnology are pleased to announce the arrival of another resident. GlycoMar is a marine natural products and drug discovery company, set up to exploit the diversity of biological organisms present in the marine environment. The company is the first marine natural products company to specialise in marine invertebrate glycobiology. GlycoMar’s products have applications as research biochemicals, diagnostic biochemicals, and pharmaceuticals.

GlycoMar has been founded Dr. Charlie Bavington. Charlie trained as a biochemist, completing a PhD at Edinburgh Universirty, studying metabolic changes in cartilage related to osteoarthritis. His postdoctoral research was at SAMS, studying echinoderm glycoconjugates. He subsequently worked for 5 years at Integrin Advanced Biosystems, a marine biotechnology and testing company, as Operations Manager and Drug Discovery manager.
